On Monday last a male Fin Whale was washed up near Raghly in Sligo. This young whale is not fully grown and measures about 10 meters or more. If you live nearby you should get down for a look before it is removed, it really is an amazing creature to see up close.
Fin Whales are the second largest whales on earth. You can follow news about it on the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group website. Today the whale was positioned here on this map but the tide has been shifting it about for the past few days so it might move.

I saw a small whale that was beached on Garrettstown Beach several years ago.
Lovely colour on this one, and the vignette draws the eye nicely! :)
I hear they are chopping it up today, I’ll fire up the barbie!
